In 1999, Nagendra V. Mali — a science graduate with a diploma in journalism and a deep flair for serving the poor — founded Navachetana Foundation in Haveri to promote rural development in one of Karnataka's most underserved regions.
What began as grassroots work with self-help groups grew into a deeper conviction: that education is the surest way out of poverty. In 2007, the Foundation established Vidyashilp International School — a CBSE-affiliated English-medium school in Haveri — and the mission has continued to grow ever since.
